Books Through Bars
We send quality reading material to prisoners and encourage creative dialogue on the criminal justice system, thereby educating those living inside and outside of prison walls.

Movement Building

Books Through Bars has many resources to share with other prison book programs and supporters of prisoner education.

Map of Prison Book Programs

This map gives contact information for prison book programs throughout the US, allowing supporters of prisoner education to connect with a group in their area. Other PBPs are welcome to link to the map as well. [[Contact us]] to get your prison book program listed.

National Awareness Poster

This poster is designed to be displayed in libraries and can be used by any prison book program (people visiting the site from your area can find your program on the PBP map!). [[Contact us]] to request copies.

Books Through Bars VideoIn 1997 Books Through Bars, in partnership with Scribe Video’s Community Visions program, created an 18-minute award-winning documentary. This documentary, which includes footage of both prisoners and prison activists, highlights the work of Books Through Bars through the discussion of dwindling educational opportunities available to prisoners. Video is currently out of stock; we will have more copies available, as well as an online version, in the summer of 2008.
