Books Through Bars has designed, conducted and sponsored a number of research studies focused on prisoner access to education. In each case, data analysis reveals a situation even starker than decades of experience prepared us to expect. Setting out to document the obstacles prisoners face as they attempt to secure for themselves access to educational opportunities, we uncovered an array of scenarios that are numerous, complex, and alarming.
